MUSIC - SPACE - SCIENCE - PEACE & ROMANCE KEYNOTES OF THIS YEARS 10TH ANNIVERSARY ANGEL FILM AWARDS – MONACO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL!

Awards Celebration was staged at the Art Novo Theatre at the Novotel - Monte Carlo, Sunday December 9, 2012.

Great atmosphere at the glamorous three-day extravaganza 16 films in competition promoting, peace and love – a refreshing antidote to the usual violent cinema.

ANGEL TROPHY for Best Film of The Festival and Best Feature Documentary went to (Polish/US/Japanese) film "CHOPIN THE SPACE CONCERT" (directed by Adam Ustynowicz ) unanimous decision del la jurie.

Movie Storyline: Scientists aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour were energized by the emotional, pure art form of Chopin’s music, as it played in the background, while they installed some of the most advanced technology known to man on the International Space Station in 2010.

THE ANGEL PEACE AWARD went to "MANDELA THE WORLD THAT MADE HIM" (South Africa), (directed by Jacqueline Fox & Gerald Fox).

Movie Storyline: A cinematic journey into Mandela's native land, his deep-seated moral traditions, and tribal roots give insight into the man and world-renowned leader.

The Humanitarian Angel Film Award went to "HUMAN FREEDOM" (directed by Hans Peter Scheier (Switzerland) also winning Special Mention Angel Film Award.

Movie Storyline: A moving portrait of Swiss educator Marcel Muller-Wieland’s humanitarian efforts of opening children’s minds to learning by lovingly providing them individual attention.

Best Short Film of the Festival "YOU KNOW WHAT I WISH FOR" (Germany) winning 7 Angel Film Awards: Best Female Actor: Bri Krebs; Best Male Actor: Martin Wuttke; Best Director: Irina Arms; Best Newcomer: George Arms; Best Original Music: The Humanitarian Angel Film Award (short film section).

Movie Storyline: Filled with the spirit of resistance like so many other Russians in their occupied land, Lisa a 14 year old mute girl, and her five year old brother Vanja, sharpen their shooting skills just ahead of the unexpected arrival of two German officers.

"AYA" (Japan) scooped 4 Angel film Awards for Best Cinematographer: Yasushi Fuluichi; Best Newcomer: Chihiro Kasahara; Best Original Music: Yasushi Fuluichi; Best Original Story.

Movie Storyline:Movie Storyline: When Aya, a misunderstood, passionate free-spirited painter fled her home to live in the woods amid nature’s great beauty, she had no idea she’d have to use her own beauty to help revive Ao, a burned-out painter.

"ANDERKANT DIE STILTE" (OTHERSIDE THE SILENCE) (South Africa), winning 4 Angel film Awards for Best Director: Desmond Denton; Best Supporting Female Actor: Joeye de Koker; Best Producer: Dr. Mario Denton & Mauritz Grundling; Best Script Feature film.

Movie Storyline: Movie Storyline: A group of the most unlikely characters living in an old people’s home put on a play. We are able to share, appreciate and understand that they still have lessons to teach us.

"A FACEBOOK ROMANCE" (Jordan) winning 3 Angel Film Awards for Best Ensemble Cast: Lamitta Frangieh, Mohamed Karim, Mohamad Al Abadi, Mona Shehabi, Ed Ward, Salar Zarza, Nabeel Kony, Mohammad Fassid, Ruba Attalah, Maya Hijazi; Best Male Actor: Mohamed Karim; Best Supporting Male Actor: Ed Ward.

Movie Storyline: Movie Storyline: A young Jordanian woman travels 6,000 miles to meet face-to-face with the man she’s fallen in love with on Facebook, only to be surprised by what she finds, and even more surprised when the situation takes an unexpected turn.

"DREAMS AWAKE" (USA) winning 2 Angel Film Awards for Best Female Actress: Erin Gray & the Independent Spirit Award.

Movie Storyline: Movie Storyline: On a family vacation on Mt. Shasta, a disconnected family, a mother with a secret, and a homeless man with unclear intentions, are brought together and experience a magical journey of the physical and spiritual worlds.


The all female jury was let this year by the International Spanish actress Ana Obregon. The other jury members included French writer and TV host Marie Laurence de Rochefort; British actress Suzanne Kendall; German actress Maike Billitis; BBC World Journalist Babita Sharma. The 2012 Dame of Honour Lamia Khashoggi she is named in UNESCO’S "A Network of Remarkable Woman" and Co founder ‘The Children of Peace’ (ONLUS)

The festival started ten years ago by Rosana Golden and Dean Bentley, specifically to showcase non-violent films. The Angel Film Awards may eschew violence but this is no hippy dippy affair, with chic and stylish post screening VIP champagne receptions at some of the best hotels and clubs in Monaco. AFA - MIFF Festival Director, Producers Golden and Bentley have selected 16 films out of 980 entries. Additionally they selected 8 Screenwriters as official nominees who also have been nominated during the awards night. In spite of the serious yacht posturing in this part of the world - these awards are growing in reputation as one of ‘THE EVENTS’ not to be missed on the International Film Festival circuit!
