BABITA SHARMA - BBC WORLD NEWS

Babita Sharma is a presenter for BBC World News and in 2011 was unveiled as the new co-host of Newsday, a daily news programme presented live from Singapore & London.

Babita got her first break in television in the UK, working for Thames Valley Television and then worked for BBC Radio Wales on A Voice for All.

She moved to Dubai where she spent three years working as a radio and TV presenter for the UK network broadcaster Channel 4.

Babita rejoined the BBC in 2002 working at Radio Berkshire and BBC South Today - two regional news services in the UK.

In 2004, she joined the team at BBC Spotlight Channel Islands working as a video journalist and anchor of their daily evening news programme.

Following a stint presenting for the UK’s ITV1's early morning news, Babita returned to BBC News in 2005 where she worked as a TV Producer and Presenter for the BBC News Channel.

She was involved in the launch of the Your Money business strand fronting the weekly programme before becoming a regularly presenter for the Channel's business bulletins.

She has worked on a number of major breaking news stories including the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, coverage of the Northern Rock banking crisis,

UK general election in 2010 and most recently, the Japan earthquake & tsunami, the Arab Uprisings and the death of Osama bin Laden.

Babita joined BBC World News - the BBC's International news channel as a freelance presenter in 2008 before taking up her new role as the anchor for Newsday in February 2011.

Babita grew up in Caversham, Berkshire in the UK.

She studied Journalism, Film & Broadcasting at the University of Wales, Cardiff and now lives in London.
